Back to the Future at Rockville Bridge in PA

I finally had my roll of Fuji Velvia developed.
This is my first use of Velvia 50 and my first
roll of film shot since I bought a Canon 10D
last spring.

I am pleased with the results, although I have
discovered processing a slide image takes longer
than a digital photo because of the dust spots on
the scanned slide image that
have to be removed one by one with software.

The color saturation of the Velvia is rich
as I had expected. And the resolution in a
35 megabyte Tiff file from a slide is obviously higher
than the Large JPEGs I shoot with the 10D.

So here is one slide, scanned with my Nikon
Coolscan IV ED, and processed - contrast adjusted,
slight increase in saturation (didn't really
need it} resized at 1150 x 781 pixels, and unsharp mask applied - in
Paint Shop Pro 7.0:

And here is a digital image of the same train:

The two photos are dramatically different but
that's really unsurprising considering the
different perspectives of the shots. I used
my Canon 20mm lens on the Elan 7 and my Canon
70-200mm on the 10D.

In the future, I intend to shoot more film, particularly the
Velvia, but for convenience's sake, the 10D will be
the first camera I pick up.

The digital image is much more dramatic. Slides seem difficult to reproduce.

Try pushing a roll of it to 100 or 90. See what ya think.
