Sort of reminiscent of the velocipede that track inspectors and other personal used.

Here is one built by a railroad... this is in a French Railroad Museum, Des Trains et des Hommes http://pierreg.free.fr/museechf in Mulhouse France. If you ever get a chance to visit France, this museum is a must-see!

Those are nice looking vehicles. However, I would be scared to death to ride them over some of the trestles and bridges that I have seen!

Yep that's a rael velocipede. C&O had them and I have seen a picture one in use at Greenwood Station on the (North) Mountain sub. It was a dreadfully old pic, for it showed the east entrance of Greenwood Tunnel which was bypassed back when many very old folks were still in diapers.
