NS 2524

I took some pictures of NS SD70 #2524. The number board area was painted white, but the rest of the unit was in it's original paint. Anyone know why?

From your post it sound like you are talking about the new offical paint scheme of NS. The lastest change, if you have not been following the numerous reports on TO, is that all future NS units will have this area white, both wide nose and standard cabs.

2524 is NOT in horsehead paint. The numberboard area however is painted white for some reason. It also sports NW sublettering on the conductors side of the cab.

Was there not a GP38-2 in the 5500 series painted the same way?

I suspect if any area of the cab is touched up it will be given the white -- even if the entire unit is not repainted.

if I am not mistaken a couple of units got the white before the side NS decals came in.

Why would NS just touch up that area when, like most all of the original 70's, the whole unit needs painted?

2524 was leading 811 today ( west of Roanoke )

That NW sublettering is odd... a shop mistake?
