Eastern Railroad Discussion > Semi vs Train Collision -- Truck Driver SchoolDate: 08/30/04 16:42 Semi vs Train Collision -- Truck Driver School Author: nickatnight Saw something on AP news about a collision involving a train versus a semi being used in "truck driver training". Occurred near Climax, Georgia. 4 fatalities, the driving instructor & 3 students which were in the cab of the semi.
Sadly, no information was given regarding the railroad, such as damage to the train, the status of the * railroad employees*, etc -- as if the train was somehow an indestructible robot unworthy of mention. Date: 08/31/04 13:04 Re: Semi vs Train Collision -- Truck Driver School Author: piszczek It was hard to tell whether the unit was NS or CSX. The cab and front end of the lead unit appeared to have had all the paint burnt off and was an even grey color. Of course it might have been a NS stealth unit.
News report said the truck was pushed 1000 feet down the track... Date: 08/31/04 13:38 Re: Semi vs Train Collision -- Truck Driver School Author: wabash2800 Sounds pretty sad. I can just picture a student behind the wheel and the instructor helplessly yelling NO! NO! NO!
Date: 08/31/04 14:46 Re: Semi vs Train Collision -- Truck Driver School Author: jch9596 It's a sad story all around. These students and the instructor had family and friends who are mourning them now. The fact that perhaps the student and instructor were repsonsible does not diminish the pain their loved ones feel or the sympathy we should feel for them.
With that said, the forgotten victims are always the train crew who were helpless to do anything, who must now live with the fact that they were involved in an accident that took four lives, regardless of whether they shared any blame at all. Sad, sad, sad. Joe H. Date: 09/12/04 08:25 Re: Semi vs Train Collision -- Truck Driver School Author: choochoodriver wabash2800 Wrote:
