Louisville & Indiana ?
Author: swalker

While traveling north from Louisville toward Indy on US HWY 31 I noticed the tracks had been relocated farther east. The abandoned roadbed is between the tracks and the road. Looks like the tracks were moved only about 100 ft or so.
Why were they moved?? When ?? Just wanting to know.
Thanks

Can't say for sure if the PRR ever relocated any of their tracks in the area but most likely the abandoned roadbed you saw was the former route of the Interstate Public Service traction line. Total abandonment took place after a wreck in September of 1941.
Many remnants of the line can be seen between Sellersburg and Scottsburg and there is a monument to the line including an old trailer in Scottsburg in the park on the north side of town.

L&I has not relocated any of the road bed. It was most likely the old right of way for the interurban.
