Bennett Levin's E8s at CP Mary, Enola Excursion Special
Author: dsktc

On a gloomy day, I caught the second
of today's three excursions to Enola Yard
from Harrisburg's Amtrak Station.

Here is the train going back to Harrisburg
at CP Mary, with 5809 bring up the rear.

There were six Septa coaches and one Amtrak
coach in the consist, as well as the
Pennsylvania, #120; Warrior Ridge, #1157;
and the Pullman, the Little Juniata Rapids,
behind the 5809.

Needless to say, it was really tough
to get a decent photo today.

Thanks, Gary. But they're really crappy
shots. I used ISO 800 because of the
sky, which added noise to the images.

Oh, well. We can't control the weather.

Dave
Does not matter what you used, you were out on a lousy day taking pictures of great units and sharing them with those of us who did not go...Thanks

An absolutely beautiful job in inclement weather..... thanks for braving the
rain to get such outstanding photos. Sometimes the reflectivity of wet surfaces
and the increased color saturation, especially in this case of the maroons and
greens, adds to the interest of the image....a truly great job.

5711 going south to Enola,
with Bair's Tackle Shop and the Susquehanna River
in the background.

Look at the timelessness of that image.... it could be 1952 and that E-8 could be
new. Thanks for sharing.....

Another view of 5809 coming off the bridge.

NS 13G is below, waiting to proceed to
the Pittsburgh line.

I made a day out of the event yesterday, driving out from New Jersey with a friend of mine. We got out there before the nine o'clock train left, so we photographed, it in the rain, from a boat launch south of the bridge on the east side of the river. Due to the weather, which included dark clouds and fog, we went to the north side of the bridge as sun angles (unfortunately) did not matter yesterday. We photographed the nine o'clock train returning from that side of the bridge.

We then photographed the noon excursion going over the bridge from the northwest corner of the bridge. Aside from the E8s, the other highpoint of our location there was NS 21M overtaking another westbound (double stacks) train on the bridge. From there we went to the "Old Iron Bridge" to photograph the train coming out of the yard. Another good catch there was a yard crew moving cars around with a SW1500 & a SW1001, both still in Conrail paint. Gotta love those switchers!!

After that, we broke for lunch and then went to the station to board our three o'clock excursion. We got some photos at the station after the train returned. We then paid a visit to Harris tower (which was open yesterday) and then saw a few NS trains roll by and an Amtrak move before the rain started to pick up again. It was then time to head home.

As previously said, we have no control over the weather, but did make the most of it. I will be dropping the film off today to get developed. I didn't use any slide film, just print. I will be heading back out there sometime soon, hopefully with better weather.

Apparently OCTrainguy and I were on the Iron Bridge at the same time yesterday, and didn't know it...(a good crowd on the bridge at the time) I shot the second run into and out of Enola from the Bridge....Dave Williams

Sometimes it really is a small, small world!! I was wearing my NY Yankees jacket (yes, I know they're sticking up the place right now) and an Altoona Curve baseball hat.

Dark, gloomy... Great shot!
It just looks real ('cept those darn SEPTA cars!)

You might want to try Noise Ninja Professional. It does a fine job of clearing up noise and it's a plug in into Photoshop now so it can be part of your workflow stream.

Thanks, Bill.

I use the Neat Image plug-in in PS CS.
