Does anyone have any good B&LE/DMIR websites? Rosters of Locomotives and freight cars?

TIA

Stephen:

For the Missabe, go to www.missabe.com which is the website for the Missabe Railroad Historical Society.

I also highly recommend following two books:

"The Missabe Road" by Frank King. This book, considered the authoritative history of the DM & IR, covers this railway up to 1972. It includes a complete steam locomotive roster. University of Minnesota Press recently reprinted this volume in softcover.

"Duluth, Missabe and Iron Range Railway in Color" by David C. Schauer has excellent color photos. Its coverage extends to 2002. It has an all-time diesel roster

I second the David Schauer book. Really just incredible coverage and tremendous photos. A great read while chasing the real deal...

Morning Sun also has BLE book, other than that none have be pusblished since the 60s. The 60's book is better by a long shot but was before the tunnel motor era.

As for BLE web sites:

http://duluthsuperior.railfan.net/

This covers all the local railroads in the Twin Ports area, and has some good pictures of the DMIR. Kent Rengo, a railfan/engineer on the CN, former WC Superior Sub, does a pretty good job of keeping it up to date, when he can get in from the road.

I've found that the OreRail group at Yahoo Groups is the best source of current and historical DMIR information.
