What happened to these units?
Author: mc5725

I have an HO scale model railroad called the Toledo & Eastern. I am still developing a paint scheme, so on my layout, every locomotive remains in the paint of its former owner. The engines I use are decorated for many roads. The following units are all models on my layout, and I'd like to know the history and what happened to the prototypes. Here they are--

-Conrail GP9 7271
-Conrail C40-8W 6058
-Canadian Pacific FP7A 1404
-Canadian Pacific F7B 1910
-Canadian Pacific SD40-2 5702
-Amtrak F7B 151
-Union Pacific FA1 1500A
-Burlington Northern SD45 6549
-New York Central GP35 6155
-Chicago & North Western C44-9W 8606
-General Electric AC4400CW (the demonstrator) 2000

I renumbered my model to 4400 simply because there was something I didn't like the number "2000". I had no idea the real thing assumed that number.

WHOA!! Hold on. What happened to the 6528? It was retired two months after it was built! I thought 6549's fifteen years were short, until I saw 6528's two months!!

That's usually indicative of a wreck.

As of two years ago, CP5702 was still an active unit on CP, according to a roster I found on the Web. And according to Don Strack's Web site, CNW8606 was to become UP9575, though I don't know for sure that this actually happened. There's probably a CNW-to-UP listing out there somewhere that can tell you.

Thanks for everyone's info so far.

Just so we don't lose track, units I'd still like info on are--

-Canadian Pacific FP7A 1404
-Canadian Pacific F7B 1910
-Amtrak F7B 151
-Union Pacific FA1 1500A
-New York Central GP35 6155

These ones may be a little trickier. Oh, and here's one more--

-Amtrak F7A 104

I may throw those up onto Loconotes and see if anybody there knows.

CP 1404 to VIA 6553 to WC Railcars to AC 1756 and IIRC now at West Coast Ry Museum
CP 1910 wrecked, traded in on GP35 5025
CP 5702 should be alive and well

Here's a reply on a couple from Loconotes:

-Union Pacific FA1 1500A
UP 1500A was renumbered to UP 1600 in April 1948, which was retired and
traded to EMD in May 1965. - Don Strack

-New York Central GP35 6155
If this is the GP35 EMD exhibited at the New York World's Fair, then I
believe it was renumbered to NYC 2399, then PC 2399, then CR 2399, and
scrapped by CR at Hollidaysburg, PA mid '87. - mike w

Yes, this was EMD 1964 (for display), to NYC 6155, to PC 2399, to CR
2399. - Stan Lytle
