Model Railroading > Spline cars in HO

Wondering if any company was making splice rr cars in Ho scale. These can carry a container or a wheeled trailer.

You've used two different spellings and I'm not sure either is right. You talking about spine cars?

Walthers did make them and I think detail west made the pieces that will allow you to carry containers on them.

The out-of-the-box Walthers Spine car allowed for containers and trailers as-is.

Details West produced two detail kits for these cars:

1) Better trailer hitches
2) Spine Car Detail Set (better looking grabs/brake equipment, etc)

I believe the kit to allow them to carry containers was by A-line, but it was for the
Athearn impack car, which only had provisions for trailers.

If your talking about 53' spine cars...Dream on! There has been an almost constant cry for these in Ho scale for years. Sadly, Thats just one of many pieces of rolling stock that seems to fall on deaf ears where the likes of Walthers and Athearn are concerned.

But if you are time constricted who wants to put together metal kits and paint and decal?

Well, part of the hobby for some people is to just run trains.

Other folks spend the time to put kits together, because that too, can be fun and give you a huge sense of accomplishment once ya get it together. In this RTR world, more folks should give kits a try.. if they haven't already.. It's a whole 'nother side of the hobby.

And like exercise, the more often you assemble kits, the better your models become with every try.
