Model Railroading > SD70MAC Flared Radiator for HO?Date: 10/04/06 19:13 SD70MAC Flared Radiator for HO? Author: hoydie17 I'm currently engaged in a project to buy some more present-day equipment for my CSX inspired layout, the layout is still in the planning stages. But I'm still building up my collection of motive power and rolling stock, one of my necessary pieces are more HO Scale SD70MACs with the "flared radiators".
I had a supplier that was producing these sections for my through injection molding. But he has all but disappeared from the internet and hasn't replied to any of my e-mails. So. . . does anyone out there know of a company that produces the "flared" sections for a 70MAC/70M and even the "notch-nose" cabs for the UP/NS engines? Thanks in advance, Sean Date: 10/04/06 19:49 Re: SD70MAC Flared Radiator for HO? Author: NSDash9 Contact Mountaineer Precision Products to see if they still have these parts available:

Author: KV1guy Not sure how accurate you want that CSX FLAC (FLared-mAC)to be but there are more things that are diff about these than just the radiators. The area below the rads is completely different in regards to handbrake and grill locations. The section of the hood behind the rads is angled off....rather than rounded off on traditional MACs. And also on the enginneer's side the carbody buldges outward on to the walkway below the intake grill.

>>MC>> flac, flac like a duck... Date: 10/05/06 18:54 Re: SD70MAC Flared Radiator for HO? Author: JohnZuna I can't say on this forum what we call them at work. Give me a CW44AC anyday... I do like the way the flared '70MAC's look though.

I'm not a rivet counter per se, in my books, if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it's close enough to being a duck for me. Or a 70MAC, had to play on the AFLAC thingy! I realize there are going to be some rather insignificant nuances. I've yet to actually meet someone in person who pulls out a photograph of an engine on a layout and starts comparing. I'm not entering the engines in a prototype contest, I just wanted something that looked a little closer to the real things. I appreciate your feedback though KV1. I tried e-mailing the dlhloco guys, and as of yet, no replies. I'll keep on them. Sean |
