Digitrax DCC Decoder Lighting Question
Author: northridgeswitcher

Ok > if you want to program the following for a current Digitrax Decoder like a DN163K1C to do the following what should CV 49 and C 50 be set at:

When F0 is pressed and locomotive is travel forward front light should be on normal.   When traveling in reverse front light should DIM and rear light should come on at normal brightness.

Thank you to all that reply...

This is what I do for truly realistic lights. (You turn them on and off yourself just like the engineer).
F4 gives diming for meets.

For Digitrax, F0 turns on the front light, F1 turns on the rear. Reverse makes the front light dim if on, but lights stay on if selected.
Digitrax
CV33 =  01 Assign Front Head Lamp on F0, on/off either direction.(default)
CV34 =  04 Remap Rear Head Lamp control to unused light wire,
CV35 =  02 Remaps button F1 to Rear Head Lamp . On/off either direction.
CV49 = 104 Forward, dimmable, dim in reverse.
CV50 =  00 Default.
CV61 =  01 Headlights controlled by F keyes either direction.
Speed Table = Constant Ratio Curve (to match TCS engines)

For TCS, the same, but but the front light does not dim on reverse.
TCS
CV33 =  01 Assign Front Head Lamp on F0, on/off either direction.(default)
CV34 =  04 Remap reverse lamp mode control to unused light,
CV35 =  02 Remaps button F1 to rear light. On/off either direction.
CV49 =  40 Forward, constant bright (dimmable on F4)
CV50 =  32 Reverse, constant bright (no dim)
CV61 =  00 No effects
CV64 =  04 Front Headlamp brightness on dim.

Scott:

Perfect, tried it on a Digitrax and it works great.  I have TCS also.

Thanks so much.

You are welcome. I am happy to spread my crusade for prototypical lights!

Scott:

Could not agree more.

I wonder why more N manufacturers have not followed Atlas's lead and developed more locomotives with operating ditch lights right out of the box.  (like the Atlas Dash8-40CW done in 2009/2010).

I saw on-line at one N Scale mail order company that Altas has announced another run of these (although no UP or SP) but can't find them on the Atlas site (they are also on Walthers but with a TBD due date) and no other dealer seems to have posted them for pre-order.  Reach out to Atlas but so far no response to the question.

I have converted/added ditch lights to couple of Kato P42's but it's a lot of work when room is so limited.

Thanks again.
