Model Railroading > Hey Walthers how about a Golden State Limited?

One of my dream trains is the Golden State, in the red head scheme.     Now that Walthers is adding the rounded off butt end sleeping car and a lounge car to their roster, how about looking around ant their fleet and picking the best closest cars and doing them in the red head Golden State Limited scheme.    And, make it a mix of Rock Island and SP just like the real train.    There were even some heavyweight RPO and Baggage cars done.   I have the olde Proto 2K red head E7's and need to use them!

I'd go for a Golden State pass. consist , too . Prior to the mid 1960's , it was a fine train and Rock Island's flagship train. 

Been waiting 50 years for a Phoebe Snow. All I get from manufacturers is crickets.

Ya crickets is right.   I have actually asked Broadway Limited to just to a run of thier Daylight cars in silver with a red stripe and they will not even respond to that.   At least some of the cars still had fluting with that scheme.   But at this point especially with Broadway who has become the Lionel Lines of HO scale who cares if they are correct.

The release of the GN Empire Builder opened the door to Seattle trains, so a NCL and maybe an Olympian Hi...?

There's lots of needed passenger equipment but Walthers is just stuck in repeat mode with no desire to produce new named trains that aren't rehashes of ones past.

 

At least they rehash. Ive contacted Broadway limited about a new run of CZ cars. They are not interested and say they have no plans in the future.

Tooling for new carsides cost money. A cost they may or may not be able to recover in a reasonable amount of time.
Trains like the Super Chief are pretty popular, the Hooterville Cannonball not so much.

No one in this thread is requesting model train sets of "Hooterville Cannonball" type trains.  The Golden State Limited, Phoebe Snow, North Coast Limited and Olympian Hiawatha were among America's most notable passenger trains and were flagship passenger trains for the railroads which ran them.    These are not obscure, branch line, or short line passenger trains.

 The point being made, just a guess, is the examples above, are not considered good enough investments by Walthers even though they may be considered "notable" by some, although Hooterville to others.  

In my original statement all I asked for was to use existing cars that are close to the cars used on The Golden State and just paint them in the red head scheme.   That way up front costs are minimized.    The same is largely true for a North Coast Limited but you would have two major hurtles as there is nothing close to the Dome Sleepers and the BUDD diners.    Of course Union Station Products has all of this stuff if you want to go to work and actually model railroad.    Walthers has done a number of thier cars in NP paint, including the GN dome coach which I did manage to get two of.

If Walthers did that you guys would be on them in a nanosecond about making "foobies" and trying to pass them off as authentic.
