Model Railroading > San Antonio Hobbies - Mountain View, CA.Date: 11/21/05 13:49 San Antonio Hobbies - Mountain View, CA. Author: fjc Don't know if it's been mentioned, San Antonio Hobbies in Mountain View, CA. is going out of business. The out of business sale has been going on for a month now, and currently items are 30% off, worth checking out there's still some decent finds.

Hazmat Date: 11/21/05 16:25 Re: San Antonio Hobbies - Mountain View, CA. Author: mirage Too bad they're shutting down -- sometimes you could find random stuff that wasn't on anyone else's shelves. The key words here are "_you_could_find_", the staff sure didn't know what was out there. Perhaps not surprising, given the broad variety of hobbies they tried to support.

Author: fjc I agree, at times you could find oddball stuff that was long out of production, I seen they had some Atlas UP U30C's at 30% off. Too bad I ordered one last week from Caboose Hobbies, oh well, they still had a good variety of Kato and Atlas engines. I understand the owner had a stroke, and decided to call it quits, 40yrs they were around.

Author: TopcoatSmith One of our local shops, even though they cut way back after a TO man sold it is going under as well. Not very Prestigious ...
TCS - and so an era finally ends. Date: 11/21/05 21:36 Re: San Antonio Hobbies - Mountain View, CA. Author: roberthedgecock Never cared for the generally surly clerks in the model RR department Obviously these guys have pretty empty lives

Maybe off duty they were really great guys. Who can tell? --Mark J Date: 11/22/05 10:37 Re: San Antonio Hobbies - Mountain View, CA. Author: SP_8299 If it's Floyd's old store ye speak of, don't write them off yet. The train dept. isn't half bad now that "The Don" is running things.

I'm writing off the whole complex, didn't you hear that the Ansdale's(sp?) are selling out to Costco (no, not the chinese shipping folks ...). Bye bye HC. TCS - decal express Date: 11/22/05 14:28 Re: San Antonio Hobbies - Mountain View, CA. Author: SP_8299 Oh, I've known about the sale for a long time. But like I said, that prestigious place ain't done yet. And to heck with the rest of the complex; just how many dollhouse furniture stores, rock stores, and cheesy kids' amusement parks does one need, anyway?
PE - movin' on up... Bye bye > HC. Costco? I'd heard something about condos. Hmm... Apparently, things has changed. I wonder how long it'll take for AAA to drop Shabby City from the listings of things to see and do in Ana-L'Chaim? Carl (TCS -- Back from the homes of U2 and the Cowboy Junkies, I see...) (Or should that be Van Morrison and Neil Young?) Date: 11/22/05 21:38 Re: San Antonio Hobbies - Mountain View, CA. Author: CN5655 A buddy of mine talked to one of the sales clerks who mentioned that San Antonio was actually being sold and would continue to be a hobby store. Who knows, time will tell . . .
Date: 11/22/05 22:12 Re: San Antonio Hobbies - Mountain View, CA. Author: fjc Well for a store that's being sold, it seems counter productive to sell off all the stock in this manner, we shall really see what happens soon I guess as things thin out. I'm wondering when we'll see a going out of business sale for Franciscan Hobbies? Run off your loyals, can't always rely on the touristos, now they are selling Boyscount & Girlscout uniforms there!
