SD45T-2R questions
Author: mario_puzo

I dug into one of my SD45T-2's recently (now to join the ranks of a million other projects :D) and I had some Hi-Tech GRIP Bat. Box doors so I decided to make it an SD45T-2R. I have the new bat box doors on and the red gyralite notch plated over, and the radiator access doors will get replaced soon. However, after looking at some prototype pictures like this one:

I was wondering if that's a Salem type air drier behind the rear fuel filler and if that's also a waste water retention tank below the drier. If anybody has some detail shots of this pluming or some more information it would be very much appreciated!

Yeah, what he said. Also be aware that the first rebuilds kept the red UDE light in the nose, and that the cab vent configurations changed on some units; can't remember the numbers offhand, although I did research that type of stuff for the SD45T-2 clinic Harry and I did at WPM last year. Have to dig it up over the weekend...unless Harry beats me to it.

According to the Southern Pacific 1987/1988 Motive Power Pictorial by Joe Shine,
SD45T-2r's 6767-6808 were originally sent out of rebuilding with the U.D.E light
in the nose. I also recall seeing some SD45r's also outshopped with the nose
lights 7562, 7563 and maybe a few more. But they did lose them later.

All SD45Rs retained the nose lights when rebuilt.
