BNSF GP35's
Author: SantaFeRuss

Athearn news for 13 Sept 2006 has the new image BNSF scheme applied to GP35 locomotives. These locos are numbered 2031 and 2037.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe GP35's are in the 2500 and 2600 number series. Did I miss something? Is BNSF re-numbering/re-painting GP35's or did Athearn take some liberties here and decide to add another paint scheme to the GP35? Any thoughts?

These are ex-GP35's that were rebuilt by NRE into GP38-2's. I don't know if the small
center fan is still there (The couple photos I found online were hard to tell), but
they now are non-turbocharged (with the GP38 style filter box). They still have the GP35
style frame.

Thanks csxt4617.

A new kit-bash project on the horizon. Remove the 36 inch fan from between the two 42 inch fans, remove the turbo stack, add 2 small stacks on both sides of the dynamic brake fan and also add a Farr air filter in front of the dynamic brake fan/first stack and you have a new GP38-2/GP38-3 in the new 2000 series.

well, I imagine there probably wouldn't be much of a delay on those, since the tooling
is already done...basically just run a production of the models and paint them. The
MP15AC is all new tooling from the ground up (well, they might be able to use the trucks
from a previous model)

Latest word I heard on the MP's is that the unit is ready, except for the DCC/sound issue. Trying to cram 10 lbs of stuff in a 5 lb bag. I for one will wait for the DCC one. I know others just want the unit on DC.
