Model Railroading > Tank driveDate: 01/09/07 23:28 Tank drive Author: SP9392 How good is the old tank drives that Overland had. I own a DD40AX that has the older tank drive. It runs great.

In fact the only difference is that it's just more prototypical to not have a drive shaft sticking out of the fuel tank! The early tank drive with the metal universals can be problematic due to alignment and spacing of the various shafts connecting the universals. Also, the early Overland Zamak metal gearboxes developed cracks which resulted in some unfix able gear binds and misalignments.
Finally, many of the later tank drives also had a flywheel on the motor to add to their smoothness My opinion, having owned quite a few of all 3 types of Overland Diesels. Regards, Auburnrail Date: 01/10/07 20:17 Re: Tank drive Author: SP9392 sounds good.
