As you will see in Dave's description of his photos, the NW RPM marked the "return" of Bob Zenk. Bob's famous (infamous?) F40PH model, featured in the two-part Mainline Modeler article in the 80's influenced my modeling as much as has Dave's. So it was a particular pleasure for me to be able to meet Bob after hearing only stories for so many years. Although the F40 was sold years ago, and whereabouts unknown, there will still plenty of other models that I had only seen in the pages of magazines. Here are some of them:

Congratulations to Brian Rutherford, Rick Selby, and Keith Thompson for all their hard work in making the meet a success. And to Keith's twin daughters, Denver and Mikayla for being perhaps the best raffle ticket salespeople in RPM history <g>.

Here are Denver and Mikayla assisting Rick Selby during the raffle.

Wow.. That model water car is something else. Here's the real deal I found at the UP yard in Stockton, Ca.

I was just wondering last week what ever happened to Bob Zenk. His work certainly inspired me 27 years ago and up (I can't believe it's been that long!). Dave has some photos of the man himself in his pbase collection linked above. I still remember every one of those Mainline Modeler articles (The PA's in MM's first & second issue, the Pullman car, Cuesta fire train, F40PH, wrapping an SP Atlantic's boiler with stainless steel shim stock, the K-M article, etc.). Some of the details on this old equipment of his aren't quite up to the level of what can be done today, but seeing them again just makes me feel that they're so historic!
