Model Railroading > Anybody tried to re-power a Athearn SW1500?Date: 05/01/07 05:30 Anybody tried to re-power a Athearn SW1500? Author: ns6669sd60 Has anybody tried to repower one of these with a Proto or Atlas switcher frame and motor?
Thanks Date: 05/01/07 10:28 Re: Anybody tried to re-power a Athearn SW1500? Author: grahamline Redid one of the early ones with an NWSL motor and universals. Dropped the speed range a little and made it quieter. Adjusted the end-play on the worm gears with washers and saw no reason to mess with the power trucks beyond cleaning and applying LaBelle's plastic-compatible grease. What are you trying to accomplish?

Do you mean the real SW-1500 with the more modern carbody or the misnamed SW-1200 in the first generation body? Nothing from KATO would work for the correct SW-1500 but their NW-2 chassis could be fit under the SW-1200 body. Date: 05/01/07 14:38 Re: Anybody tried to re-power a Athearn SW1500? Easiest way to re-motor one is to find one of the Overland chassis that were designed for the Athearn shell.
