Looking at the photo, shouldn't the horn be on the long hood?, and not over the cab.

The DRGW SD40T-2s spent about the first 15 years of their careers with the horns mounted over the front numberboards. Only later (during the 1990s) were the horns moved to a location over the long hood. About the same time the horns were relocated (or not long thereafter), many of them lost their gyralites/mars lights in the nose as well.

Also note the short fuel tank on Susquehanna 4010 (ex DRGW 5397).

But there is an error on Susquehanna 4012 (ex SP 8242) and apparently that error also affects the SP units.

You mean the NYSW3010 and the 3012. Remember, these are preproduction model photos.

The error on the NYSW being an ex-SP8230 class is the lack of the late phase "bulged out" dynamic brake cluster with modified late phase rooftop exhaust silencer. IIRC, the SP guys will have this correct - perhaps China sent the three SP 8230 series guys East over the Pacific with the wrong dynamic brake clusters too. Hence the reason wy we don't have photos of them (yet) on the Athearn site...

Did the Rio Grande SD40T-2's have the entire side railing on the short hood white like the pic shows, or is that just a detailing oops on the picture?

Aw.. you know the answer.. it's just a preproduction model that surely merits correction before production signoff.

Yeah, I know, I just don't want to have to dig out the RC car flexible paint if they were to come out painted/colored that way!!
