Model Railroading > Removing flywheels from a can motorDate: 11/03/08 10:42 Removing flywheels from a can motor Author: brfriedm Just curious how people have done this. I am remotoring a LL GP38-2 with a new can motor. I need to move the LL fly wheels onto to the new motor's shafts. A few years back, I took a soldering iron and heated the shaft of the old can motor and the heat broke the bond and the flywheels just slid off. Any other approaches? Thanks.

I held one and pulled and twisted the other, it came off. Then I used a visegrip to hold the motor shaft on the end I just pulled, and repeated the other end. It slightly marred the end I used the visegrip, but I trashed the motor anyway. The LL motor hit the rim and went into the trash can afterwards.
