Kaslo Shops ATSF SDF40-2 Resin Kits have arrived
Author: sd39u

My box showed up on Tuesday, here are some shots of the model. Looks to be a fairly easy and straightforward build for a ATSF specific and unique locomotive. I bought 2 of these resin kits and they will be the first resin kits that I have worked on. All I need to do now is find some Athearn SD50/60 drives to put underneath them and I can get started!

How difficult would it be to back date this loco to its original Amtrak SDP-40F?

Kaslo already released the SDP-40F shell a while back, not sure if they still have any in stock.

I've got a couple for sale if anyone wants a Kaslo SDP40F kit.

Cheers,

I received 2 of these kits a few weeks ago and was really impressed with their quality. I've built most of the first kit including painting the blue and yellow. I'm hoping to weather the grills this evening before applying the decals and adding the handrails. As Eric mentioned, the kit was pretty straight forward to build with good drawings and directions. The air reservoir tanks required some cutting to fit properly on the SD60 shell but otherwise no issues. I'll post some photos as soon as I have a chance. Overall, a really nice job by Kaslo!!

A friend of mine spent alot of time kitbashing his own SDP40F and did it up in Amtrak, not sure if he was aware of the Kaslo offering, I don't think I'll tell him may make him upset.

Does anyone make a GP7u?

I'm glad you like the kit Eric ;). And I know someone who is making the cab and nose kits for GP7u's.

Yes you will! I'll be making an announcement soon and I'll give you a call later. I had no idea what I was getting into when I embarked on this project. I will be glad to see it over so I can get back to modeling!

Here are a few in progress photos of my first of two SDF40-2's. Still some work to be done including addition of handrails, remaining grab irons, decals, weathering, etc. Again, I'm really pleased with the shell and plan to finish them soon!

What kind of friend are you? A real friend would wait until he was finally done, and then tell him.
