http://www.trainpix.com/bn/EMDORIG/GP9/1715.HTM but I want one with a sidesill like this: http://www.trainpix.com/bn/EMDORIG/GP9/1741.HTM What are the phases? I have a phase ?? and want to trade for a phase?? Anyone have one to trade? Date: 01/14/10 16:28 Re: GP 9 details Author: jkchubbes Is that a manual bell on the roof?
Date: 01/14/10 16:45 Re: GP 9 details Author: drgwguy Maybe I'm not looking at the right area(s), but are you asking about sidesills, or noses? Because I went between the 2 a few times, but am only seeing a 'major' difference in the 'nose' height.
Either way, doesn't Walther's (ex-P1k/P2k) make these in either version? Sorry I couldn't be of more help, Rick Date: 01/14/10 16:52 Re: GP 9 details Author: LarryDoyle I remember those units. Yes, I believe they were ex-NP, and had a "steam engine" bell on the short hood, with a REALLY NICE paint scheme hiding under that green.

You've got either a Phase 1 or 2 depending on the louver arrangement on the long hood. The side sill is the same. BN 1741 is an early Phase 3 with four 36" fans. AFAIK P2K never offered that configuration - their Phase 3 was a later version with two 48" radiator fans. It is easy enough to swap the Phase 2 long hood onto the Phase 3 GP9 or high-hood GP18 side sill to get there. If your prototype has 48" fans, Phase 3 is all you need. So I have a Phase I or II sill/walkway and am looking for a Phase III or hi-nose GP18 sill/walkway.
Date: 01/15/10 10:12 Re: GP 9 details Author: IAISfan Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the Phase 1 GP9s, or at least the early Phase 1's, have a solid skirt (i.e. without the oval slots), and lack the box on the walkway immediately behind the cab on the brakeman/conductor's side (assuming short hood forward)? Depending on the louver details on the battery/equipment boxes, couldn't he simply cut away the slotted portion of the skirt to get what he's after?
Joe Atkinson Date: 01/15/10 13:49 Re: GP 9 details Author: pmack The fuel filler also moved from the rear to the front of the skirt so it might work if I turned it around but then the battery boxes would be on the wrong end.
