Model Railroading > How good is Athearn F45 BN?

How good is the Athearn F45 BN especially concerning the colour? Have in mind that the green was quite olive and not correct? Has any of the three running numbers specific mistakes?

Here is a photo of a friend's three BN units taken at my local train club a few months back. The F45s were essentially fresh from the box, no weathering added. I'm not a BN expert, but I like the color.

I thought the green looked very nice. . . of course, I'm sure you're familiar with the discussion about what really is "BN Cascade Green". . .there were many variations, depending on how it aged, how it was washed, which shop painted it, when it was painted, etc.

About the only thing I'd do to my model, if I wanted to model is post-1975 or so, is cut the anticlimber back and install a cut lever with "handles" on it. Otherwise, it's a schweet model.

Say, those is darn nice--great-looking power, no matter the size. Kurt.

Here is mine, alongside a MILW FP45 unit for comparison. The GN big sky blue version is also very striking.

Great detail for the $, though windshield wipers are noticeably bulky. Virtues far outweigh such faults.

Thanks for nice pictures and messages.I ordered the BN 6643, should arrive in a few days. Have already FP45 WC, ATSF and Milw and F45 GN, UTAH, MRL and now BN!

Sorry, not a Rio Grande modeler. It would make a terrific model, bet you can't do just one.......
