Hey Frisco1522 what did you do to my loco?
Author: wabash2800

I just asked you to solder the pilot back on my Wabash, Halmark 4-8-2 and now it is pulling 25 cars up a 2% grade on curves too boot...LOL Before it could only pull 10! And I think the weight for the boiler is still in the box!

Dang, if you ever find out let me know, or did you just wake up from a dream? I knew Don was good but, not a miracle maker.

Well, it's true but after running it a while the motor was starting to get warm (no friction tires.)

The only thing I can figure is that when I sanded off the top of the preweathered Micro Engineering rail that I gave it a bit of traction?

Yep, it will do that.

Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like a good long term solution for the loco (bearings or motor burnout). I did use the lightest grade of sanding stick available...

I had to use a lot of solder............

Don, that's funny!

It will take a while but the rail will eventually smooth out and traction will fall back to normal after a lot of cars pass over it. You might want to lube the motor and gear box and axel bearings. Motor should not heat up that bad even under the conditions you descrbed.

Which is the noise the decoder makes immediately before it asks to let the smoke out.

It is DC for now. The layout is to be DCC but am testing with DC until I get the DCC wired up and have decoder equipped locos.
