Model Railroading > vintage Kadee?Date: 09/04/10 12:09 vintage Kadee? Author: pmack I opened a pack of Kadees to make some more coal car rotaries and these fell out. I've never seen #5s like this before. How old are they?

Some of the oldest Kadee couplers I've seen were bare non blackened metal couplers similar to the #4 couplers, but the uncoupler pin had a ball at the lower end supposedly for use as either a magnetic uncoupler or a ramp uncoupler.
Ted Curphey Ontario, OR Date: 09/04/10 15:07 Re: vintage Kadee? Author: winstonhill I think that shank style was MK-7 or -8--it had a different style of spring that was a bear to get around the end of the shank. Long time since I've seen one...

Might be one of the clones? Are they metal? The MK (without the D, which was for delayed uncoupling) had a vertical pin coming directly off the tip of the knuckle. I've also seen the ball tipped ones - I think those date from the '50s. Warmest regards, - Arved Date: 09/06/10 17:33 Re: vintage Kadee? Author: pmack They were in a taped shut #5 envelope I got in a collection. Most of stuff seems to be from the late 1980s so probably not a clone, yes they are metal.
