I am looking for 3 complete sets of hand rails for the HO scale Kato SD45. Kato shows them as out of stock on their website. Anyone know where else I might be able to find these? Will the SD40 handrails fit the SD45's?

Swap meets or e-bay..

The SD40 handrail set will not fit the SD45 as they have a different hole pattern on the conductors side..

Very soon you will be able to purchase the Stanchions from Railflyer and have something more to scale than Kato has done. That is if you want to do new handrails.

I do need new railings. I bought 4 engines (3 SD45's and a SD40) but none of them came with the hand railings, but the price was too good to pass up. I found a set for the SD40 on HOYARDSALE and the guy selling them said that they might fit the SD45's too.

The cab of the SD40 sits farther back than the SD45 parts are wrong in all 4 pieces. YOu might be able to hack up the railings for 2 units or so by cutting all the stantions from the railings and use these to mount bent wire railings to the carbody. There is the smokey valley option but that would likely take years to find the right sets, Walthers' supply is limited.

Might also be able to order the handrails from Athearn's SD45. Mounting holes might be different, but any port in a storm, right?

I'll look into the Athearn ones.
