Model Railroading > Replacing Athearn MRC decoders with TsunamisDate: 10/18/10 14:42 Replacing Athearn MRC decoders with Tsunamis Author: slagg A friend of mine has two older Athearn Genesis F-units with the MRC sound decoders. He's had lots of trouble with the decoders and has asked me to replace them with Tsunamis. I'm going to order a couple of TSU-1000 decoders with EMD 567 sound. My question is, are the speakers that came with the MRC decoders compatible with Tsunami decoders (i.e. correct impedance) or do I need to order some speakers, too?
Thanks, Joel Slagg Date: 10/18/10 14:46 Re: Replacing Athearn MRC decoders with Tsunamis Author: wildcat12 some of the MRC speaker are 32 Ohm, and the soundtraxx uses 8ohm.
I also need to replace the POS MRC decoder in my MP15AC which runs poorly. Date: 10/18/10 14:56 Re: Replacing Athearn MRC decoders with Tsunamis Author: johneasterly Get the 8 Ohm speakers, I used 1" Dia in my F Units from Athearn and hot glued the speaker in place where the MRC one was

I bought mine off ebay directly from Railmaster with free shipping. I am not sure if they still have that deal going.

The MRC factory jobs I have seen were 8 ohms. Also make sure you order GN-1000 Tsunami's as they are the Athearn drop in replacements and have the built in circuits for 1.5 volt bulbs. Good luck.
Bruce Date: 10/18/10 16:57 Re: Replacing Athearn MRC decoders with Tsunamis Author: rdsexton Definitely better to use 8 ohm speakers. If you decoder can put 1 Watt into an 8 ohm speaker, it will only be able to put 1/4 Watt into 32 ohm speaker.

At least the MP15AC has an 8 ohm speaker (at least, mine is so marked). - Arved Date: 10/18/10 19:01 Re: Replacing Athearn MRC decoders with Tsunamis Author: UPJeff I still have all my speakers up on EBay, or on my website.

are you a dealer for this? I´ve 3 sound F7, all with different decoders. I think it will not succeed mapping and speeding this for Multiple Traction. Have a nice day Erwin from Austria |
