Model Railroading > La Belle HOn3

Hi all..

I just purchased a La Belle Models HOn3 combine kit. I'm looking into adding some "extra" details to it but am curious if the tension rods supplied in the kit are string like a lot of older style kits are, or are they some sort of metal wire? If they're string, I would like to replace them with brass wire which leads to my next question.. What diameter should I get?

Any additional tips and recommendations are more than welcome.

I have made that kit and I did not use wire. The wire is difficult to get straight and to keep straight, so I used fishing line. No one can tell the difference once it is painted black. Just a suggestion.
