modelrailroader.com site getting slow
Author: wabash2800

Many of us had noticed it in the last couple of weeks. They say they are aware of the problem but don't know what is causing it.

I would assume the website is hosted to an outside hosting service?

It is getting downright annoying. Maybe Todd can give them some advice? <G> Trainorders is the best functioning site that I have ever been on. Perhaps MR needs the subcontractor to change their platform and upgrade the hardware?

Edit: It's the forums that are really slow.

Both the modelrailroader.com and trains.com websites have been slow.

And at least for me tonight, trainorders.com is very slow! Taking 15-20 seconds to load a 600K set of pictures.

There's been a number of comments about the Net slowing down, not sure if it's the Amazon rent a server issues, the new Firefox 4.0 or just a lot of new handhelds getting onto the infrastructure and slowing it down. Try to figure out if it's your Network/connection, a recent software download/patch, IE vs Firefox or a specific server, or website or a specific advertisement on a slow server (my pet peeve).

Of course that knowledge and 2 bucks will get you a cup of coffee.

Don't you just love computer technology sometimes? A recent glitch may have cost me a job offer. Recently, I sent a thank you letter following a job interview with my yahoo email. Normally I would have done it in Word and then sent it, but I used the spell check in my email. I made corrections and saved it in my draft folder and eventually sent it. Later I viewed it in my sent folder and to my horror my corrections did not get saved!!! That ruined my whole day and I'm still fuming about that. I never had spell check in my email until I recently switched over to Mozilla Firefox but also that day I had problems with my contacts book not working. I'm not sure what the culprit was but my statement in the letter about "paying attention to detail" is probably the laughing joke in the office. You live and you learn.

You know, a follow up letter explaining that incident might actually go a long ways to give you the edge in consideration. Shows you really care about the quality of your work, and are serious about wanting the job.

I'm a hiring manager at my company, and I know if I received something like that, I'd have to give a second look.

Just sayin'
