An ExactRail Greenville 65ft Mill Gondola has joined the fleet.
The local switch crew is captured shuffling around a load of steel pipe and a refrigerator car on a busy Monday afternoon.

Is that really a regulatory issue when a yard shifter is involved?

Maybe not switching in a yard but if it's going going out on a road freight then it has to be fixed.

The only time it is ever a regulatory issue, is when the car is next to a hazmat car. Some individual railroads may have switching instructions regarding shiftable loads, but it's not prohibited by any law.

Yup, familiar with the car-placement regulations for hazmat. My question applied to the specific placement shown in the model photo.

Back in late 1989, I chased a D&H train up Belden Hill out of East Binghamton when helpers were still routinely assigned to such trains. The rear car in the train was a gondola loaded with utility poles braced with stakes. I'll bet the helper crew loved staring at that all the way up to the tunnel.

All you have to do is watch the CSX Pipe trains.

What weathering technique did you use on the gondola?

Matt,
All A.I.M. washes, plus plain rubbing alcohol. I cover the model with the "Quick Age" Let it dry, the I covered the model with grunge black. After it somewhat dried I take a Q-Tip and moisten it with plain rubbing alcohol and wipe the mess I have created up... Seems to work ok.

The switcher was done similar to the car... Each piece of equipment seems to be a continuing experiment.

Thanks!
