Intermountain NS ES44DC ditch light question?
Author: acltrainman

In the box with the unit is a statement that changing certain CV's the ditch light won't flash when horn is sounded. My question is do the real NS units ditch lights flash when the horn is sounded or do they stay constant on? Thanks for any NS fan who can answer the question, thanks.

I'm not sure on the Gevo's and Ace's but all others flash. So on them i would guess yes.

Ditch lights on NS units alternate when they flash and intermountain made it so both flash at the same time which looks dumb.

According to MTH it has something to do with the fact that the NS units have ditchlights on both ends. I have two CSX units and they work like the prototype. Out of the box, they flash way too fast, but a simple CV adjustment slows them down and another makes them flash longer after the horn is sounded like the real ones.

Intermountain did not have enough decoder outputs to make them alternate on the front and back. So they sent the units out with them flashing together. The only fix is to make them stay on steady during horn blowing which you can do by programming CV 52 and 54 to a value of 128.
