Model Railroading > Digitrax PM42Date: 10/26/12 18:01 Digitrax PM42 Author: markgiesecke I am finally getting to the point to install a PM42 on my layout and have a few simple questions for anybody who has installed one. First off what gauge wire do you use to connect to the little pins? Did you solder the connections or use some type of connector? Any helpful information is greatly appreciated.

You can only go so big on gage to the connector pins on the connector. I slipped heat shrink tubing over the pins on the connector after soldering to minimize the possibility of shorts. 20 gage is plenty big as the current trip point is about 3 amps if I remember correctly. It can be set less I know. You can always increase the gage if you need to by using a terminal strip a short distance from the PM42.
