Model Railroading > Bridge grating material for flat car decksDate: 11/03/12 20:49 Bridge grating material for flat car decks Author: emd_mrs1 I need some material which would be close to the metal open grid decking found on automobile drawbridges.
The model flatcars I am building use this as a safety tread for the decks of the flatcars. Any suggestions for this material would be appreciated. The material need not be exact, but the grid surface should be able to be "faked" with paint. Vehicles will be parked on the flatcars so much of it would be covered. I have considered roof walk material but that would get expensive for several flatcars. Many thanks! Plano also sells some of their etched screen which you can cut to size which might be more affordable for your needs.

What about cyclone fencing material? I don't know what scale your cars are, but for HO I was thinking of the stuff that Builders In Scale makes. Perhaps spray painting it before applying it, then weathering it along with the car afterwards. Google HO scale cyclone fencing to see what suits you and your wallet.
