Free-Mo pics: Midwest RPM, Benton, KS

Just wanted to share a few shots of the Free-Mo setup at the Mid-Continent RPM from this past weekend with all of you. I've not built a free-mo module(yet), but I really like the concept, and as you can see, there's some really great modeling on display here.

Two more of the Augusta, KS refinery, and then one of the SF/BNSF overpass over K-177 south of Matfield Green, KS. On may way back to Lawrence, I just missed a shot of a southbound BNSF freight over this very bridge. 'Twas very cool to have seen the model AND the prototype within an hour or so.

And here's my sentimental favorite, the Rock Island being represented on these modules representing on of the small towns on it's "High Line" between Goodland, KS and Fairbury, KS.

Hope you enjoy, and if you haven't yet looked into it, the Free-Mo concept is quite intriguing.

Jeff,Ros refinery is modeled after the Augusta KS refinery not the El Dorado KS one. I am not trying to be a smart A$%, just information. I know the rest of us in the free Mo group would welcome you to buils some modules and run with us anytime. It was great talking to you over the weekend and seeing your great modeling skills again.

Really nice modules. I wonder how they wire the signals between modules. Is there a protocol they follow and does someone have a control unit or computer that runs the signals on all the modules?

Wow, fantastic modules. I've seen these modules at various shows and have always been impressed, especially with the refinery scene/models. Thanks for posting.

The signal you see there in pic 9 is really just a switch point indicator, if my short term memory is right.

So Jeff, when will we be seeing an Iowa Interstate themed Free-Mo module from you?? ;-)

Rumor has it he's thinking of building a free standing Iowa Interstate traveling layout in N scale. I've heard he has already started acquiring power and cars for such an endeavor.

I would, but there's nothing all that intriguing or modelable with them. I mean, its just flat, boring Iowa, right? ;-)

Yeah, I need to actually start building that darn thing. I've got my first shipment of Metra cars coming in this week, and a new fleet of ADM ethanol cars coming in April as soon as Athearn can get them here.

I'd love to see IAIS' entire fleet painted to match 513, except with Iowa Interstate lettering.

That refinery is a fine piece, for some reason my shot came out blurry but
damn fine modeling.

Mega-dittos! The owner should be encouraged to write an article.

Rob Petty is the owner of the refinery modules nd is a good friend of mine. He is not a memeber of TO but I will see what he says about writing an article. Many thanks to all who have posted all of the comments about the show. It was a great time for all involved.

Nice shots Jeff! After thinking on it a while, I can sort of see why someone might be interested in modeling the IAIS. ;-)

Ack! Please no. The 513 is a beauty, mind you, but still...
