NEW HO PiggyPacker Intermodal Crane from Wheels o
Author: tracktime

Behold!! Awesome News for HO scale modelers! Got a piggyback track or intermodal ramp of any size on your layout? You'll likely need one of these.
The most popular side-loading intermodal crane in North America.

Perfect for intermodal yards of all sizes, from 1968 to the present day.

Multiple paint schemes to be available. A completely assembled HO model RTR. The N scale ones from Wheels of Time were released earlier this year and are terrific, IMHO, and the HO versions promise to be at least as good.

Kudos to Wheels of Time for this groundbreaking announcement!

Cheers,

That is great news! I figured they would "upscale" the Piggy Packer after the N Scale versions were well received. If they are anything like those (and I have three), these will be an awesome addition and I sorely need something for my intermodal yard.

Hmm.. Evergreen Styrene is your friend! =)

That said, I noticed WOT also is offering a container-only spreader for their HO scale Piggypacker. Count me in!

This is a terrific announcement. Thanks again to Matthew @ Wheels of Time for making this Piggypacker his first release in HO scale. For us HO folks, Wheels of Time has built their reputation with a line of finely reproduced passenger cars in N scale over the last few years. It's wonderful to see them offer products now in HO scale.

Cheers,
Harry

This...is...AWESOME. Best news I've heard from Trainfest yet! This has been a huge gap in HO, and I'm happy to see WOT addressing it. I'll have my order in to my LHS first thing tomorrow.

This is a product that I've been asking for for since I saw one of the extinct HO kits from N scale of Nevada that are rarer than anything. I've lobbied Wheels of Time at every show I saw them at. Probably drove him crazy. I purchased one of the Nscale ones to support the company and I dont even model in that scale. The BNSF facility at Midway in St Paul has multiples of these as their only loading method-It's not going to be inexpensive, but an essential model for the modern intermodal modeler. The n scale one is beautiful, I have no doubt the HO one will be just as nice.

I've also seen one at the Port of East St Louis loading steel coils.

I'm ecstatic!

Count me in for a log loader as well.

Or at least the heads up that a log loader will not be done so somebody can start on a kit bash.

If you are referring to N scale, Wheels of Time has already released several versions of the Raygo/Wagner PC-90 Piggy-Packer in N scale earlier this year. A second release for N scale is also coming for November 2012.

Does anyone know if you have to reserve these through WOT, or what the advantage is of doing so? I'd prefer to support my LHS, and also to not pay until these arrive next summer. The WOT site appears to be set up to charge me via Paypal at the time of the reservation if I go through them.

Joe & All,
Asides from ordering direct, products from Wheels of Time can be orderable via any local hobby shop that deals with Walthers or other distributors.

I've seen the Wheels of Time product line at the local shops in my area.

There is some more info to this effect on the WOT website:

anyone know if these were used at D&RGW intermodal facilities in Denver, Grand Junction or SLC?

Most definitely. I walked into my local hobby shop today, just as my eyes landed on a scene of a piggypacker loading a DRGW Railblazer train. It was playing on the TV from the Pentrex DVD entitled "Denver & Rio Grande Western".

Timing is everything. =)

Cheers,
Harry

P.S. The Piggypacker in the video did not have any DRGW-specific lettering on it from what I could see. Just the generic "PiggyPacker Strongman" logo on it. For those taking notes, Wheels of Time is offering this scheme in both HO and N scales.

I have a Pentrex Video by the same title but haven't watched it in a while. Guess I better shove her in the VCR and play it! VCR's look pretty blurry on a 46-inch high def and my Rio Grande Odyssey DVD ain't much better. But, thats all we have to work with!

OK popped it in and lo and behold, it was queued up to the scene with the PiggyPacker loading a 45' Rio Grande trailer onto a TOFC flat car. Doh! The Piggy Packer didn't seem to have any large or identifyable logo's on it.
