I would like to share with everyone some of my early era Norfolk Southern Corporation factory painted HO scale models. I have nine to share in this posting but I have more NS models such as SD40-2's and SD50's I have yet to finish and photograph.

I have an Athearn RTR SD45 #3144, and several Atlas U23B's, B23-7's, a GP38, and a GP40 to share. I did some detail work on them but all need some more details to add. I am asking what replacement horns to add to these units. I want them to be some sort of metal casting such as brass as a replacement. They do not need to be an exact match but close enough would do it for me. The Atlas factory horns are not the best looking and they are made of plastic that can be damaged if one is not careful in handling the models. Although I'm not too concerned about adding those distinctive Southern Railway walkway lights to my former Southern units, does anyone make them? Any other detailing suggestions are welcome.

Sorry about the Kadee # 5 couplers on my models. Many here have pleaded with me to chuck them aside in favor of scale couplers. It's something I can't really explain but I just have a preference for the Kadee # 5's. I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder however odd it may seem.

I added Hi Tech Details Southern Railway style cab side window awnings to most models pictured here. They look great and I'll have to add them to my two B23-7's. Those two models I finished many years ago but I have not upgraded them yet. So they have those "floppy ears" sunshades still attached to them at picture taking time. I also need to add all weather windows to my one former Norfolk Western GP40. I have them but have not yet installed them.

I added several other details like the Details West wheel slip modulation devices to my GE units like the real ones had. Those add a nice touch to the GE's. The cables are made of very flexible rubber sheathed thin electrical wire. The trucks swing from side to side with ease even with the cables attached to the modulators. The wires are very flexible and hold their shape. I added Details West brass casting firecracker antennas to all models. They are durable and are not easily broken. It takes a lot to break those off.

I added windshield wipers, speed recorder, MU hoses, MU receptacles, drop steps, and uncoupling levers, to my former Southern Railway Athearn RTR SD45. The end heralds I added using some Herald King decals. The numbers in the number boards are from a Herald King C&O GP30 set I had.

My lighting is all natural outdoor sunlight. I used a small folding light tan table and a off white board for the background. My camera is an 8 mega-pixel Canon digital Rebel XT with an 18-55 mm zoom lens. I used small aperture openings between 22-36 for great depth of field while photographing my models.

I lightly weathered all these following models to suggest freshly washed units. I have a tendency to lean toward clean looking models. I work in the cleaning business so that's where my obsession with clean comes from. Hope everyone enjoys my following models, Gilbert.

When you build that layout, you are going to have one MASSIVE engine facility! Nice work!

Excellent job of separating all the grey colors those black colors evolve towards.

Once again, thank you for sharing. You have a great collection.

I like Kadee #5 couplers too.

I remember your post a while back which heralds to use on your 3144. Good choice of decals. Your 3144 came out superb! Good job Gilbert. Earl is out...
