Video Taping from the cab with the iPhone 5
Author: brfriedm

I finally got in the new Minuteman Scale Models iCar5. This is a laser kit that you need to build out of wood. It takes about 3 nights to build as you can only go so far building it as you need to wait for the glue to dry. This kit is not hard to build but it requires allot of patience and you got to be really mellow while your building it or you will break something. I pulled it off. Anyways, after getting it done this am(I was off today) I put it to work. It works pretty darn good. There are other versions for different iPhone and Ipod models. See website below. Here are 3 pictures of the car right before I put her to use and a video showing her in action. Pretty cool. I would post the video of the cab ride of my layout here but it is too big. The car tracked very well and does include Kadee trucks and couplers. I had zero obstruction issues also. Car was well thought out.

Thanks Bruce

PS - I have been using those keychain spy cameras to do this type of video and it works well but the quality and resolution of those keychain cameras is poor. This allows me to use the HD quality of the iphone 5 and the quality is quite impressive.

I bet you're going to find all kinds of stuff to fix or clean up in the video. Gives you a different perspective on the layout.

Their web site says it uses a mirror. Is the image reversed?

Ok... So the video tour would be too big to share here... But, what about on YouTube? I'm sure you could put it there and mention it. I for one would love a video tour of your layout. Oh, and when the camera train met the standing train, I loved the sound of the idling EMD SD70ACe, I think I may have heard a SD40-2 in there also?

I like it, I want to order one as soon as I find out if I can use my one-X in it. First order of business will be to get rid of them arch bars...ugh... ;-)

Wow, really bizzare to see archbar trucks on your layout! What a view though. Looks like a well thought out and beautifully engineered car. I'd love to see video from it, how about in sections? Or posted to Youtube? I'm always interested in seeing more of this beautiful layout.

Ted,

I have been video taping my layout with Keychain camera's from the cab view for 2 years now and the first time I ran the train, I was blown away. It led to many straighten signals, scenery updates and more detail. Thanks Bruce

Dear Frisco1522?

The image is reversed. You need to use iMovie for the MAC or Windows Live Moviemaker software to correct it. Good call.

Hey Andy,

So my Youtube user name is the same as my user name here. brfriedm

I have video's from the cab there now so you can see the cab view with a keychain camera now until I upload the new quality later using the iPhone 5.

Thanks Bruce
