Bowser C&O C630 Question
Author: EH49

Picked up my unit today and it is a great looking and running model, I do have one question though. Bowser has the horns painted Yellow, is that correct? My guess would be Blue. Thanks

My C&O expert says he has never, ever, ever seen a yellow horn on a C&O diesel. Should be blue.

I accept the challenge! See C & O SW 1 # 8401 at St Thomas Ontario.

Inside the bells there, but outside?

The "expert" in my case is the owner of an impressive C&O-themed layout.

Well, that sure does look yellow, dunnit? Guess I'll send that link to Layout Person.

....which I have just done....

....and got this response: "Wow, I wonder how long or when they got them that way. Of all the color photos I have seen I have never seen a yellow horn. Wow wow wow"

Hard to tell from a B&W pic what color the horns actually are. I just ran through the Morning Sun Book C&O in Color volume 2 and all shots of the C&O C630's show blue horns except for a shot of the 2101. The horn on it appears to be bare metal or silver. I'd bet the horns on he B&W pic are bare metal or silver and not yellow.

Ha. But just because someone says he has never seen something, does not mean it doesn't or didn't exist, only that he hadn't seen it.

Those horns are silver because they are new. The cab-side mounting found some horns being used to check clearances.
