Model Railroad News at St. Louis RPM
Author: Tony_Cook

From today's 7th St. Louis Prototype Modelers Meet, Moon Dog Rail Cars has two tie loads for the new HO-scale ExactRail CenterBeam Car. The ties will be offered in untreated or creosote versions. The UP ExactRail CenterBeam is shown loaded up with raw or untreated version ties, while the bundle on the ground in the foreground is Moon Dog's creosote versions. You'd expect your hands to be icky after handling the creosote ties, they looked so good.

Nick Molo came down from Canada to debut early samples of his second release ready to run Moloco General American 50-foot Plug Door Box Cars. Here's the Gulf Mobile & Ohio and Chicago Great Western examples.

The other two roadnames for this second version fully assembled GA 50-foot Plug will be Rio Grande and Soo Line. The model will retail for $53, plus shipping and is due late 2013 to early 2014. Visit Moloco to see the first release GA 50-foot Plug Door Box Cars now available: http://molocotrains.com/store/

I inquired about Moloco's coming Pullman-Standard hopper model and Nick says to look for the model in the first half of 2014.

Dave Hussey from Cannon & Company was present at the St. Louis RPM and had a number of items, including this Southern Pacific Box Car kit. The kit is the starting point for an Espee B-100-7 or B-70-9/10/15 prototype.

This truck load, designed for insertion in InterMoutain's new HO-scale Bi-Level Auto Rack, was shown in Atlanta and I missed it. Got pics today and thought it was a great concept. The truck shells and lightweight and provide a very prototypical shadowy appearance of vehicles when loaded in a carrier with see-through plating like InterMountain has done for its new model.

ExactRail was present at the St. Louis RPM and has its coming Bethlehem 3,483 Hoppers on display. I understand we'll see variation to the simulated coal loads produced for use inclusion with this car from ExactRail. Price and delivery are still TBA. ExactRail's Blaine Hadfield will give a presentation tomorrow on "New Models & Product Development" and I expect to have images of a new freight car to share by this time on Saturday.

David Lehlbach and his Tangent Scale Models was at the show. I attended David's presentation this afternoon on "PS Covered Hoppers 1940s-1981" and was disappointed by the lack of mention for my favorite TYCO HO-scale examples (Ajax, Budweiser, C&H Sugar, and Planters Peanuts). Perhaps there are no prototypes for these?!? Hmmmm, I should have asked. Seriously, Lehlbach's hour discussion of Pullman-Standard hoppers was excellent and shows the research and interest these cars hold for him.

The St. Louis RPM continues on Saturday and is well worth attending.

For info: http://icg.home.mindspring.com/rpm/stlrpm.htm

Door prizes will be given away at 4:30pm tomorrow (Saturday, August 3rd) and will include a number of neat items including White River Productions/Model Railroad News subscriptions.

For those who are unable to attend, I am happy to extend our show special of 3 FREE issues of Model Railroad News. If you're interested in trying 3 free, please send me a PM here with name and address and I'll set it up for you.

Oh, my... that looks awesome. Those are going to break the bank, especially since I don't really "need" any.

All those loads are great ideas, too. The autorack load is a great idea, something I think we've discussed here and on other lists. I'm definitely going to give those a try.

Thanks for the great coverage, Tony!

Dave

Dave;

I have a couple of them already from John O and they work very well in the new IM autorack. Hardest part of the entire install was opening and closing the doors on the car. Casa-frickin'-schuckin'-*&%$#@!#$#@%*&^%!!!!!!

Russ

Russ - I tried to adjust the doors on my first BN rack, and a rail on the back of the door popped loose almost immediately. They apparently glued them together with CA after painting, which I'm sure you know never makes for a strong bond. I scraped the paint off and reattached the rail with liquid cement. I have a feeling I'll be doing that a few more times...

Spotted this car yesterday in Provo, UT and was thinking about all the talk lately here on Trainorders of loads for centerbeams. These loads from Moon Dog look perfect to model what I saw, need to budget for these now too.
