-Pre=Amtrak "Heritage" P42/Super-Viewliners???
Author: djansson

Calling Athearn, Kato, and anybody else that makes current Amtrak models: Please look into the market opportunity for engines and cars painted up in some of the classic pre-Amtrak schemes. I (for one) would leap at the chance to buy a complete P42/Superliner set in Santa Fe or SP Daylight schemes.

Comments...?

Foobie-licious, but there probably is a market for it. Whether it's a viable market, I'm not in position to evaluate. Probably more likely to be done on an advance-order basis, to facilitate assessing demand before committing to production.

I just wish Athearn would upgrade and produce a Genesis version of the P42. I purchased a ES44 other than a decoder component malfunction the unit is very impressive. As with the SD70ACE.

Whoah, those are way too cool. More pics more pics. I picture P42s in SP's Sunset Paint Scheme! What about UP P42s?

I'd say the Santa Fe Warbonnet scheme looks a bit weird to me. It must be the lines of the loco that makes it appear strange.

Nice work, but out of all of those, the PRR is by far my favorite. That paint scheme actually compliments the Genesis carbody.

So far my favorite of all these is the Rock Island

Heh. It's all a matter of opinion. I think it looks like a butt sausage. Not a criticism of the effort -- just not, in my opinion, a complimentary color for that shape.

I LOVE fantasy schemes and engines. Excellent work.

All are nicely executed creative work on what is basically a box cab. Brings to mind the old saying "putting lip stick on a pig"--I am definitely referring to the creativity, or lack thereof, of the designers of the proto passenger locomotives over the past 15-20 years.

BTW, I agree the Rock Island scheme seems to work best on this body style. I believe it is mainly because the stripes come up higher on the nose and the curved line on the side splits up the lanky body.

Alright, enough of the locos. Let's see the passenger cars in Fantasy schemes!

Not a P42 but how about an EMD F59phi and Viewliners in NYC.
