Model Railroading > A question re Athearn's new auto racksDate: 09/02/14 10:25 A question re Athearn's new auto racks Author: march_hare I see that three different NYC car numbers will be offered on the new Athearn auto racks. I'll get all three, but here's a question for all you NYC / PC fans:
I'm sure some of these cars were repainted in Penn Central colors. Has anybody seen photos of "quick and dirty" PC repaints that could be done with minimal alterations to the NYC painting and lettering? I don't want to go to the trouble of totally repainting the cars, but I would like an excuse to have more than three of them. Either that or a search on the usual sites on the internet would yield useful results. If you want to remove the existing factory lettering to make your own "patched" ex-NYC racks, see this excellent tutorial here: http://www.southernpacificmodelerssociety.org/for-sp-tanktrain-modelers-t4533.html Full credit to "Rod1208" and Ryan M. Martin for the technique. I used red-label "Micro-Sol" as the liquid remover of choice. Cheers, Harry Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 09/03/14 17:17 by tracktime. *Warning* this video clip could be detrimental to the emotional stability of NYC fans or ex-employees. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ik_JUw3NMw Rick Date: 09/02/14 17:36 Re: A question re Athearn's new auto racks Author: TCnR So this would be a 'PC patch job' that we're looking for?

Yup, I'm looking for info on patch jobs, something I can apply to 2 or 3 cars so I can have a long string of "home road" auto racks on a circa 1974 Penn Central train. Anybody got pix? Memories? |
