Blue Goose or Phoenix
Author: SPED

Finished up the Blue Goose today, this one was repainted by someone with a love affair with a brush! Yes it was a factory painted Tenshodo and the previous owner thought to "touch-up" a little. After stripping and a fresh paint job it cleaned up nicely. Digitrax PH126D for a decoder with a 12v 50mA Miniatroics lamp for the headlamp.

Thank you.
The model was painted with True-Color 084 Maersk Sealand Blue,
40 drops of white added for the top
40 drops of black added for the middle and
Scalecoat Santa Fe Blue for the bottom.
Microscale Decals applied and Testors mix of Glosscoat and Dullcoat for an eggshell finish.

Looks like a great paint job, but baby blue steam locomotives should have been left in children's books.

That's right Ted, after the first month or so I don't think the cleaning crews liked it at all.

I have one of these sitting stripped that I bought on ebay with the foam stuck to it. It etched the plated strip somewhat but I've pretty well polished the crap out of it and now I need to mask it off and sandblast the rest of it to get the crap out of the corners. Couple of other engines ahead of it, so it will be a while.
Good job on yours. I'm still trying to figure out if the drivers were blue or black. I think Hallmark painted theirs blue.
I can't find a color shot of it when it was actually new or very clean.

That foam story sounds familiar. After many years in storage, I discovered that my Tenshodo Blue Goose had not been properly plastic wrapped and the roof of the cab came in contact with that awful yellow foam. Fortunately just the roof so it wasn't too hard to remove all the crap and get down to the bare metal. I heard somewhere that Model Master Russian Topside Blue was a good match so the problem was solved. A word of caution...check those brass models and make sure they aren't resting directly in the foam. Protect them in clear plastic wrap!
