Need Help with my Genesis F45
Author: zgardner18

Guys,

I am looking to install ditch lights to my Athearn Genesis F45. Sadly I made the huge mistake of purchasing 2 of them with the MRC sound decoder. Since I do not have the cash to pull the decoder out and replace it with a Tsunami, I will keep the decoder. My problem is that I have lost my manual and I can't find anything online how to attach ditch lights to this decoder. Can someone please show me how it's done. (hopefully you have photos too because I am a visual learner)

Thanks,

Zak Gardner / Glendora, CA.

Can you download the decoder manual over the internet? Most manufacturers allow this. The Athearn support page may have a link as well.

Start here.

Does anyone at least know the MRC model number of the decoders they used?

I emailed Athearn tonight so hopefully they will let me know tomorrow.

Hi Zac,
If you can't find out or if the MRC decoder doesn't support the additional light functions you want, a compromise might be to install an NCE D13SR (for example) motion decoder to control motor and light functions and retain the MRC decoder for sound.
The D13SR has 4 functions, enough for front and rear light plus your ditch lights and retail for under $20.00
I cut and pasted the following from MB Klein' website - It says it better than I can.
They are 1.35" x 0.630" x .110" and feature Silent Running(TM) designed to eliminate annoying motor hum and buzz at slow speeds.
Plus motor drive Torque Compensation for ultra smooth low speed performance.
Motor rating 1.3 Amp continuous, 2.0 Amp peak (stall)
All 4 function outputs have lighting effects generators.
Select from 15 different lighting effects.
Decoder programming lock mechanism.
Use the "lock" function to program the NCE and MRC separately, but give both decoders the same road number, so the functions of both decoders respond to that road number selected by your handset.
Click on the link to open D13SR instructions in pdf format from NCE's website

cheers
Dave
