Hey Jason,

So,I am a big fan, I own several Rapido products, but do not pre order anything. I saw that you cancelled the locos sadly, I would have wanted the KCS from my dealer, but unless they bring them in, I also do not order direct from mfr's, I support my local hobby shops.

Not sure what the answer is, my expectation is that the mfr will do the market research and assume the risk, then real the rewards or own the consequences.

Good luck, I hope to own more of your fine product should you choose to follow through with your excellent designs.

Glad to see the FL9 project moving along. I'll be making a reservation when the ConnDOT/NH ones are announced....

Hi Joel,

Our pre-order totals are based on both direct orders and orders from hobby shops. The vast majority of our orders, in general, are from hobby shops.

If we had taken the old-fashioned approach with these and made 300 of each paint scheme hoping that they would sell, we'd now be stuck with over 200 of each paint scheme.

There is no easy answer. If there truly are 200 guys who want a pair of Pan Am locomotives who all contact us now and say "we'll order!" then sure, we'll reinstate the models. But for these oddball schemes there no longer seems to be much of a demand.

Best regards,

Jason

With products like Rapido's, I pre-order through a dealer. That ensures (I hope) that I'll get what I want - and also supports the dealer.

Keep up the good work Jason. And sorry to hear about the tragedy in Ottawa.

Do the N-Scale GMD-1's count as the smallest sound-equipped units ever made?

Sad news.

Will the HO Napa Valley Wine Train FPA4s be produced?

Congratulations on the GMD-1. It is a fantastic loco and I am looking forward to my NAR's coming very soon. A 16 month turn-around with a product is fantastic and without problems.

To those who've been reading about other problems with a recent release; the GMD-1 is what happens when the company (in this case Jason) actually goes to the Factory during production to trouble shoot before they ship/arrive. His being there caught a very big error in the two NAR units which were purchased late from CN #311 and #312. The prototype had different font on the yellow stripe and the Factory misunderstood and put on the same font as #301-305. Jason caught this and fixed it and I doubt he could have done it without his visit. He doesn't just blow in for a day or two; he practically lives there for a few weeks.

Further more, he listens to suggestions (criticism) of his pilot models which is more than can be said for the company who made the CN SD40-2 with their interpretation which has provided a sloped nose.

Big applause; I am so happy with the GMD-1 I may even buy a green one.

Rick

Thanks for your very kind words, Rick!

All of the announced FPA-4 locomotives are being produced.

These days we always announce when a paint scheme is a conditional release when we make the announcement. We were confident we would sell enough Grand Canyon and Napa Valley FPA-4 locomotives and we weren't disappointed.

We are not confident that enough Cuban or SRY GMD-1 locomotives will be ordered - one is a very small shortline and the other hasn't been visited by many American tourists in the last 50 years.....
