Hello,

I am looking at buying a Atlas HO Gold MP15DC DCC Sound
as I am having a hard time finding one without sound and DCC.

I don't have any HO sound units or DCC so I am new in buying them.

My question can you run them with a normal DC transformer ?

Can you turn the sound off ? Can you run them with another
locomotive that does not have sound and DCC ?

Do you need a special transformer that runs DCC and sound only ?

We have an Atlas gold unit with DCC and sound, so I can help you out with a couple questions.

YES! It has some basic sound functions that can be controlled in DC mode. It does take a bit of power to get it moving.

Yes. I don't know if you can with a DC system, but I know if you have DCC, function F8 will mute it and it will stay muted on DC.

Once again, depending if you have DC or DCC.
If you are running on DC, it won't run well with others because it takes way more power to start moving since the sound takes a lot of power.

There aren't any. "Gold" is Atlas-speak for sound and DCC.

You are looking for a "Silver" which has neither. I did a Google for "atlas silver MP15DC" and found plenty for sale. Plus a new shipment this year, sometime! You don't want to fool with a sound/DCC locomotive on a DC layout.

I tried using a sound equipped DCC on DC. Yes, the sound is there but it doesn't do well for a switcher because each direction change re-starts the sound. Over the road it works passably well and visitors like the sound.
I never tried one of the separate controllers though...
