The news is the second run of the C-636 models and C-628s including high nose models have arrived.

I am not affiliated with Bowser.

MB Klein has them listed. Some sold out already.

Interesting that once again, looking at MBK website, you see the non-sound disappear quicker than the sound.

The MKO painted units have sold out but not the MKO which kept the demo scheme. People probably like the MKO scheme but I think the three worked together on construction contracts building lines for British Columbia Railways (Dease Lake extension?) in Northern BC, the test track in Colorado, Black Mesa and Lake Powell and the Robe River line in Western Australia. At least that is what I glean from the Diesel Era Withers book.

FWIW, MBK always seem to get an initial shipment of 4 SKU's each and then a second coming with larger numbers.

I don't remember the the three MKCo C-636's being used on constuction projects on the PGE. I shot them at North Van and friends shot them at Lillooet. From my memory they were were in general freight and pusher service, leased during a power shortage. Can you provide a link to a photo showing them building the Dease Lake extension?

Unfortunately this run still has the poor motors. They stated they would not change them over till run 3. Only time will tell. They do look nice.

The "MK units" where bought specifically for the Libby Damn project on the GN(BN). One that was completed they were leased out including to the BCR and of all places, The Clinchfield. Their time on the BCR was as leased locomotives. They went to Page Arizona as part of the BLKM. They were sent to the QCM to help with the construction of the Mt Wright extension and were bought by the QCM once the project was completed and left in Quebec.

The one thing they never did was go to Australia. This has be reported in error for years.

To Ken Goslett: My information was from the Diesel era article and chapter from the Withers book on 6 axle Century series. They seemed to intimate that they these three units worked on construction projects while under MKO ownership. If you go back to my post, the "?" after mentioning it means I am wondering about what project they may have worked on and that was about the time of the Dease Lake extension. The "?" means I am looking for clarification on this.

To NYSWSD70M: Damn, I forgot about the Libby *Dam* project they worked on. Regarding working on the West Australian project, well that is very interesting and now draws into question my reliance on Diesel Era for complete accuracy. I dug out my book "Railways of the Pilbara" (published 1974) and it gives no indication of the MKO units coming down under. Diesel Era is wrong! The construction locos were two RSC-3's from Montreal's MLW. They were ex-40 class locos from the New South Wales Government Railways. The construction project only lasted from May 1971 to August 1972 so I always kind of was surprised to read in Diesel Era that they were part of that project. Thanks for your clarification.

Even the time line doesn't work for them to go to Australia. They wouldn't have had time to get there, be unloaded and back in time to be on the BCR, CRR, BLKM, etc. Somehow this story got started and refuses to die. MK did rebuild the C&O C630's for Cliffs Robe River but they stayed in Australia. The two WP F7's, the C415 and the five built new for HI C628's all stayed as well.

Another mistake Diesel Era makes and does not seem to correct is the one about the SD80Mac's being built in Altoona. They were completed/painted/tested in Altoona but assembled in London, Ont.

Guys, any opinions or actual testing results of the LokSound decoders for the Bowser sound-equipped c636?

Looking to make a buy shortly and one of the 3 numbers has only 1 left at the online retailer I'm looking at.

I have Alco Demonstrator 636-1 and in my opinion, sound is fantastic! These locomotives had Nathan M3 horns originally,
and the Lok Sound version of that M3 sound is very good as is the Alco chuffing.
