Model Railroading > do you need Kato SD40-2 trucks with clasp brakes? trade has beenDate: 03/24/15 13:43 do you need Kato SD40-2 trucks with clasp brakes? trade has been Author: fbe I have two pair of these hard to find trucks with 6 brake cylinders per truck I do not need. They are grey in color and never run.
I would be willing to trade the entire truck or just the side frames for the same truck with composition brake shoes having 4 brake cylinders per truck. Alternatively, I would be willing to buy sideframes of entire trucks of the more common design. Posted from Windows Phone OS 7 Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/01/15 17:06 by fbe. I have an SD45 that I'd like to add this type of side frame on. I'd be willing to swap side frames if they are compatible.

The SD40-2 has the HT-C truck, while the SD45 has the older Flexicoil C truck; slightly different axle spacing, I believe. The traction motors all face the same direction on the HT-C, which is why the frame is extended on one end as it is.

NW/NS modelers need the 6 cylinder trucks for their SD40-2 models. Otherwise they were commonly found on SD38-2 units which is where mine are coming from. I have an SD40, also with gray trucks that has 2 brake cylinders per side (4 per truck) and am modeling the IMRL 212 which is a former UP SD40 that has 3 per side (6 per truck). I would trade if they would interchange, which right off the top of my head, don't know if they will or not.
