Model Railroading > Ferromex and Auto-Maxes over TehachapiDate: 03/30/15 00:08 Ferromex and Auto-Maxes over Tehachapi Author: MrMRL This past Sunday (day after WPM'15) I once again was invited to take a spin around one of the US's premier HO scale model railroads, the La Mesa Model Railroad Club located in San Diego's Balboa Park. A number of fellow WPM'15 attendees were present for the day's run session. Many of my fellow operators were witnessed sneaking photos of their trains as well, anyone else care to share their views? I know some of you are reading this... I believe at one point there were at least a dozen 20-40 car trains in operation at some location on the layout. This layout is absolutely massive!
For this latest trip, I brought down some modern GE power with a relatively short string of 11 Athearn (RTR/Genesis) Auto-Max articulated auto carriers. The power was all InterMountain with leader ES44AC FXE 4659, followed by BNSF ES44C4s 6916, and BNSF 6686. Pictures were captured via my trusty iPhone throughout the 8 hour day over the course of two (round) trips across the line from Bakersfield to just above Cable and back. Same images at my pbase site... http://www.pbase.com/mrmrl/la_mesa_club 1) FXE 4659 leading 11 Auto-Max articulated auto carriers through Ilmon. 2) Running West/Northbound between Ilmon and Caliente. Sorry I didn't have time to come by and say hello. I'd love to see what you could come up with for photos of malleys and covered wagons at our 1952-era operating session coming up on April 11-12. Of course, someone might try to stuff a throttle in your hand, too -- we know you know how to run these things!

One pic and two videos: 1. Liz Allen's beautiful SD9 on the point of my SP Mojave Flyer cement train. 2. Video of this same train coming up through the river canyon below Caliente. 3. Video of this train at the top of the loop. -Rick Rick Selby Redmond, WA Pacific Northwest RPM You must be a registered subscriber to watch videos. Join Today! But belonging to Elizabeth Allen and knowing what she's capable of, calling them just Proto 2000 units would be an insult.
