An army of red ants, that is.

Mean red ants that bite.

Small red ants that bite and leave blister sized welts on human skin.

Good thing my feet were 8" above the rail when I ran over the Red Army today.

Lay down sand, them things are slick when you squish guts over the rail... or hook a hose to your blow down and give them a good steam cleaning. :)

Been there and done that (living in Garrison TX,  gasoline and an ignition source)!  Doesn't take 5 gallons either!  Repeat as needed.  At lthe very least it will chase those pesky fire ants further away!

Bruce now of Columbia MO
who doesn't miss fire ants one little bit!

Garrison huh?  This was 5 miles SW of Garrison in Appleby.
In fact we ate dinner in Garrison today at Happy Junction (best damn patty-melt in the state)

What amazes me is that the little buggers didn't use the underpass that you built for them (first photo).

Nuke 'em from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

Ground cinnamon works really for the small black kitchen ants. Spread some along their trails and they carry it back to the queen where they all die. The cinnamon is not harmful to common pets. It will take a week or so to eliminate the colony.

I haven't heard if it works on red ants. Creosote for ties probably would, though.

A friend from the Santa Fe said his retirement home would be "North of the Fire Ants and South of the Switch Heaters".
It only takes a few years for the scars of their infected bites to heal, you'll survive.
But you might go insane itching an scratching.
I hate the little buggers.

My sister-in-law used to live in Texas and hated finding those in the garden, usually the hard way.  Can't get over the size of the piles in your photos, that's a lot of ants.

There is a powder you can buy that the ants carry back to their nest and it's a sure bet. I recently listened to a radio program about ants from folks that research them. Anyway, the bottom line is that ants are like robots. They do everything by programing. There is no logic, feelings, work ethic, etc.; they just do as they are programmed until they die.

Don't know if there are any bleeding hearts out there, if so, don't watch the video. If you want to get rid of them, and make something
beautiful too, you just might enjoy this. Make sure you watch to the end to get the final result.

Send the photos Live Steam and Outdoor Railroading.
They may get a hoot out of the army and print the photos.

Roughly 1220*F, or about half the melting temperature of steel. Not too hard even with a wood fire
