Future release of Walthers HO scale Proto 2000 SD9 models
Author: Grande-Fan

After looking at the UP passenger cars Walthers website I kept browsing and found that they will be releasing some SD9's this summer.
Either with sound or regular DC. BN, DMIR, SP in black widow also SP scarlet and grey.

I would love to see Athearn do a Genesis SD-9.  SP had 150, the BN had a large fleet.  What other railroads rostered sizable fleets?

Walthers already did the SP gray and SP black widow paint schemes. They are very nice and sold out pretty quickly..

On the gray unit, the horn (a Leslie S3) was mounted reversed. The black one has a properly pointed horn. The illustrations above show a Leslie S3 but the correct horn would be a P3 but could be an M3.

The huge mars lights work very well.

DRAT!  No offense to the SP's, but they have been done over and over by Athearn, P2K and Walthers.  I'm still waiting for CB&Q SD7s and/or 9s in the Burlington's "black bird" scheme.  Those haven't been done since the early days of P2K.

...looks like I'll have to get my name down for a few SP units in 'black widow' paint, missed out on the last release of these...

I'm still holding my breath, and hoping Athearn does some genesis SP SD9Es.

Pennsylvania/PC/Conrail, Milwaukee Road, C&NW, US Steel RR's (B&LE, EJ&E, DM&IR), B&O/Chessie, Norfolk Southern family NKP/N&W and CofG/Southern and BN family CB&Q/C&S/FW&D/GN. SP, of course. UP had ten SD7's, M&STL had two SD7's and Soo had one SD9. ICG SD20's were ex UP and Southern SD24's and a few UP SD7's and later SD35's from Chessie.
